In 1883, awhen Saint-Isidore was a quiet country village, Joseph-Aimé Lanctôt opened a general store offering a wide range of products. The little store quickly prospered.
In 1920, Joseph-Aimé’s son Côme joined the family business. A visionary, Côme began to specialize, laying the groundwork for the company’s future success.
In 1940, Paul Lanctôt, father of today’s president, Denis Lanctôt, came on board, his enormous marketing skills propelling the business to new heights.
In 1948, André Lanctôt entered the business, guiding it in the direction of the large-surface store that it is today. Under André's leadership, a commercial division was opened in 1975.
Côme, Paul, and André were the architects of Lanctôt's specialization in the world of floor coverings.
In 1986, Denis, Louis, and Michel - sons of Paul and André - assumed leadership roles at Lanctôt, inaugurating a period of unprecedented growth. They moved the business to a commercial complex with other companies in related sectors such as Machabée and Portes et Fenêtres Verdun. At that time, the floor covering market was booming, and the retail sector was undergoing a profound shift.
In 1998, Michel oversaw the opening of a retail branch in Longueuil. He retired in 2001.
Louis and Denis continued to run the family business together until Louis retired in 2014. They made significant changes, both to the store layouts and the product lines, always keeping a close eye on the changing needs of their clientele.
Today, with Denis alone at the helm, Lanctôt Couvre-sol Design continues to fulfill its mission of offering the widest range of products at the lowest prices. Supported by a dynamic management team of fifth-generation Lanctôts, the company now has more than ninety employees, a strong commercial division with ten sales representatives, a stairs and woodwork division, and two retail outlets.
Honouring its long tradition but with its eyes on the future, Lanctôt retains its leadership position in Quebec’s floor covering industry.
