Quantity of hardwood needed

Before starting your project, make sure you know the quantity of material you will need. Here's how to calculate it

  1. Determine the area to be covered in square feet.
  2. Add about 5% to cover wastage.
  3. Multiply this number by the price per square foot, adding installation costs, if any.
  4. Check how the material you wish to install is sold. Some products are sold only by the box.
  5. Have your calculations checked by an expert before ordering. This first step just helps you draw up a budget.

Care

Care and maintenance of hardwood flooring

Finishes do not increase a hardwood floor’s durability or impact resistance. Animal claws, high heels, and pointy, sharp-edged, or heavy objects can all leave marks or damage floors.

Vacuum your wood floors frequently to remove all abrasives (sand, broken glass, dirt, and grit) that could scratch the finish.

Use only cleaning products recommended by your floor’s manufacturer.

Never use wax, detergent, or oil-based soap on your floor.

Don’t clean finished floors with mixtures of water and vinegar; over time, vinegar will damage the surface.

Clean up spilled liquids and detergent before they can be absorbed by wood fibres.
